Axim X50v upgrade to WM6

Alex | June 25, 2008

Before I start I’m going to caveat this by saying two things. Firstly I’m not sure where this stands as far as legality is concerned, I’d suggest that it’ll be frowned upon by at least one section of the software industry. Secondly it worked for me and I’m not responsible if you brick your device.

Anyway with those bit’s out the way lets get down to business. I bought a Dell x50v a while ago and it’s been pretty good at doing what a pda is supposed to do. There are a few little niggles like battery life but all in all it’s done a good job. The trouoble is it runs Windows mobile 2003 SE which is quite dated now and begining to stop me from getting some good software. The original WM5 update offered by Dell was awful to say the least and after trying it for a couple of days just the thought of upgrading made me feel a little queasy at best.

Over the weekend I mistyped something in google and got a post in a blog about upgrading to WM6. This I had to try so a trip to some forums and a bit more googling and downloading came across a post which said it all, very simply.
I’m not going to regurgitate someone elses work but in order to save a bit of time I suggest you go here directly to page 140 and follow what joshlindem has to say

Needless to say the upgrade went well and I’m now re-enjoying my X50v with WM6. I can wholly recommend it as it’s a real winner over WM2003SE. A big thanks to those who tinker for hours to bring us these things
