SSB on 15m

Not being one to try and get all the DX I was pleased to switch on the set this evening and make a contact on 15m without even trying. Always good to confirm that the set is working…One thing it does do is show up the IC7000 receiver when compared to the FT817. Who’d have thought

So far today I wasn’t suckered in by the Radio 4 attempt with 3D radio, Portugal selling a footballer to Spain because the county had run out of money or a rare bird in our works car park which turned out to be a whistling builder….however Julian, G4ILO’s post regarding the ‘closing down’ had me hook, line and sinker.

New rig?

I may be getting closer to the magical new rig. Trouble is that now that I almost have the go ahead from our in house accountant / finance director aka the XYL. I am not sure what to buy. Magically the total budget could be up to £2000 but its by no means a done deal. I’m thinking of the new kenwood TS590 I think it is plus a kenwood HF aprs base / mobile rig that I can take into the car whilst still keeping the IC7000 which I am still a big fan of for more portable work. Decisions decisions decisions.

I can see he rug being pulled as I type! Trying not to get excited as well.

A quick post to say that GB2SEA will be active from Workington lifeboat station on Saturday morning. 80m first then onto 20m and 17m as the bands open up.

Beacon station

I’m begining to think that something is quite wrong with the beacon monitoring station. So much so that this week I’ll be using it for WSPR just to do some checks. Its been hooked up to the Hustler 6-BTV and will also be TX’ing as well on the 15m band as a compromise.
The idea is to get a feel for wether there is a problem with the receiver or that there is something wrong in the set up as there are so few spots coming through especially as the activity seems to be on the increase
