I have only known Norman for around 5 years but he has been feature of the West Cumbrian Amateur Radio Scene for a very long time. Many will have worked Norman on HF but more likely on VHF where he had an impressive log book and and even more impressive knowledge not just of radio but also anyone and everyone who was involved in the scene in the North West and beyond.
As you may have known Norman has Parkinson’s disease and whilst his voice was weak his ears certainly were not and he had a knack for picking out weak signals, especially during special event stations like SOS Radio Week and Railways On The Air where you may not have heard him on the mic but he was always there to lend a hand. Norman also went on DXpeditions as far away as VK but more recently to the Western Isles as part of the Workington & District ARC. Closer to home Norman has been instrumental in setting up the Whitehaven and Workington clubs where training and education has always been at the forefront.
Unfortunately, Norman’s health has taken a turn for the worse and he has asked me to help pass on his collection of gear, which would make any ham jealous. It is a work in progress and many of the larger pieces have been removed from his excellent shack and we are beginning to sort through what we can sell. Whilst everything is for sale, some of it doesn’t come with boxes or manuals, however that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. What we do have is the electronics, the rest we will find and ensure that any kit bought will be done so on the provision that everything is mutually agreed we are fully aware of what we do have and what we don’t have.
Everything has now been sold. Thank you for taking the time to look.
