SOTA & WOTA

Both Summits on the air (SOTA) and Wainwrights on the air (WOTA) are well established portable operations programmes. I will not go into the detail of what they are and how to get involved here as they have dedicated sites of their own which are far more comprehensive.

Here I’ll be putting together my activation reports and the QSO’s that I’ve made will be in the log book.

I got involved with this as I was out and about on my mountain bike with my old VX-3 a while ago and thought that it would be good to cycle to the top of Dent (on the way round one my local off road tracks) which is a SOTA summit and see if I can make a proper activation.

Well it worked and after a bit of thought I’ve progressed to a yaesu VX8-GE APRS handheld (Which is a favourite of mine) and a Yaesu FT-817ND. I also invested in a SOTA beam and MFD. Both from Sotabeams. After a couple of aborted attempts I made my first proper activation of Harter Fell (Eskdale) on the 25th March 2011. With a fair wind I’ll make at least one activation a month but this is dependant on both the weather and family commitments.

So the activation reports are here
